Frequently Asked Questions
If we identify a potential candidate, what are the next steps?
If you feel the candidate would make a good Thunderbird student then encourage them to visit http://www.thunderbird.edu/graduate-degrees where they can find all the information they need on the programs, application process, etc.
Once your candidate begins their application, our only request of you is that you complete and submit the recommendation letter that can be downloaded here. The submission instructions are also available on this website.
Submission of your recommendation letter is very important, as it is the mechanism we will use to validate applications and eligibility for the 40% tuition scholarship.
Am I allowed to submit more than 1 candidate?
If you have more than one qualified prospect, we welcome the opportunity to review additional candidates. We would be more than happy to receive multiple applications for potential students from your geographic location. However, we do want to maintain our admission standards and the unique characteristics that make T-birds, T-birds. This is not an initiative to simply put ‘bums in seats,’ we want alumni recommendations, because the best measurement of T-bird fit is the gauge of another T-bird.
Why is the Alumni Chapter Affinity Program available now? Who is funding it?
Thunderbird has new leadership and a stabilized future – we want to empower all Thunderbird alumni to engage on behalf of the School and we wanted to give them a meaningful tool to do so. There is no sponsor funding the program – it is a School initiative.
What exactly is the Alumni Referral Program?
The program is a Thunderbird alumni driven initiative where we are asking alumni to identify and ‘sponsor’ potential students for our upcoming class in the MGM & MA-GAM programs. If any student(s) an alumnus/a nominates meets our admission standards and is granted admission they will receive a 40% Global Excellence tuition scholarship, or in real terms: $28,000 scholarship for the MGM and $24,000 scholarship for the MAGAM.
What is the deadline to submit potential candidates?
Time is of the essence; our Fall 2016 class begins in August - the scholarship has been extended for Fall 2016. In order to ensure candidates from around the world can complete the necessary application and visa paperwork we recommend that all potential students submit their materials by March 30, 2016.
** We may accept application materials on a case-by-case basis beyond that date.
Can we only submit candidates that we have identified?
As we mentioned earlier, our best candidate recommendations come from other T-birds, so we do want your feedback as to why your candidate would make a good T-bird. However, we realize that you may be approached by a candidate who has heard about the program. Feel free to meet and vet these candidates too.
Is the Alumni Chapter Affinity Scholarship Program available for the Online, Executive MGM or new undergraduate program?
At this time we are focusing the referral program on our full time MGM and MA-GAM programs.
How many students are you looking for?
Certainly we would like as many potential qualified candidates as possible. However, we will maintain our admission standards and the unique characteristics that make T-birds, T-birds. This is not an initiative to simply put ‘bums in seats’.
What is a qualified candidate?
The admissions standards for both programs are published and can be found online.
What resources are available to me?

This website will provide you a range of resources to help you and your Chapter members.
